5 Key Principles of WRAP
WRAP is a wellness recovery action plan that you create yourself to take control over various aspects of your health and mental wellness. There are 5 key principles to consider when writing out your WRAP.
- Personal Respondsibility
Hope gives us the opportunity to move forward with our life even when we are experiencing uncomfortable and distressing situations. It’s realizing that we are not our circumstances and we can rise above to live our best life. When we think of the word hope, so many things can come to mind. I know for me it has helped me realize that with hope nothing is permanent and when I take Personal Responsibility I realize that I am not my circumstance. The 5 key concepts work hand in hand in developing a WRAP plan. By Educating myself I realize that I may not be able to change my circumstances, but I am able to work towards any goal that I set. This education can be anything from finding resources that will lead to results from talking to peers who have similar experiences, to attending workshops, lectures and support groups. Remember, you are your best Advocate!! Self-Advocacy is your best weapon in your mental wellness. Believe in yourself, It can be hard at times; trust me I know. Self-Advocacy means “going for it” with courage, persistence and determination; expressing yourself clearly and calmly until you get what you need for yourself. Surround yourself with people who Support you in a positive way. Positive Supporters are those who care about you, empathize with you, accept who you are, advocate for you when you can’t and are willing to follow your predetermined plans. We are all individuals, uniquely created. Each WRAP plan will be also. We all recover differently. Once we find our path we can live our best life. My hope is that you will experience that life too!
