How To Breathe-A Book By Ashley Neese

“A simple breathwork practice can have incredible effects on physical pain. One of our natural reflexes is to hold our breath when in or anticipating pain. This impulse ends up causing more discomfort in the body, as it creates stagnation and contraction. When the air is able to flow more freely in the body, pain reduces significantly.”

I am a person who suffers from Migraine headaches from time to time. I find myself doing this breathwork quite often to help in relaxing myself and often times I find myself in a better atmosphere when I am done. The key for me is to acknowledge the pain and breathe into it. I find that when I breathe into it, I find more of a sense of relief than if I would pretend the pain wasn’t there. At times my migraines can be pretty brutal. I do take medication for them, which is no doubt helpful; but for the times when a breakthrough migraine occurs this breathing technique really helps. It softens the pain by tackling the headache straight on. Give this breathwork a try the next time you are experiencing pain anywhere in your body, notice the differences that you experience.
