Hello! My name is Alexis and I am a Peer Support Specialist at the Wellness Center in Clinton, IA. I started at LCPRS in September and I really enjoy meeting people with different journeys and offering support along the way. Before starting with LCPRS, I was getting overwhelmed with everything I had going on in my life and felt like I had no time to take care of myself. Being here, I have found joy in helping others and coping mechanisms for myself that allow myself to see the brighter parts of life.

Since 2018, I have overcome many bumps in the road regarding my mental health. I’ve had my fair share of highs and lows and fell into situations where I had no hope in the future. I turned to alcohol to numb much of my pain and have now blanked out some key moments of my life. Nowadays, I have turned to seeing each day as a new opportunity to brighten someone’s day and create new opportunities for myself.

In my freetime, I enjoy reading and hanging out with the friends that have helped me to overcome whatever life throws my way. They have supported me throughout multiple challenges and have allowed me to keep moving through life with my head up and a smile on my face.
